1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO
The iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO is an excellent robot vacuum that has a variety of smart features that make it more easy to maintain than other models. Its automatic bin emptying is one of the most efficient features we've seen on an iRobot and it is compatible with both hard floors and carpets. The app walks you through the entire process. It's also easy to use and set up. Another notable feature is the ability to return to where it was when we tested it. It did this for 77 minutes on one cleaning, before running out of battery.
Contrary to other robovacs we test, the i3+ EVO has self-emptying bins that dump debris into an external dirt compartment on the base of its charging when it's full. This helps reduce the need for hands-on maintenance and also helps prevent the i3+ EVO from overfilling, but it must be manually emptied after every cleaning session. The i3+ EVO dustbin can hold 2.4L which will last for four to five cleaning sessions.
Like the i7model, this model is equipped with state-of-the-art floor tracking sensors to create maps and navigate in neat rows. The i3+ EVO can only keep one map, whereas the i7 is able to store multiple. The i7's map is used to create virtual barriers and no-go zones however, not the i3+ EVO.
Although the i3+ EVO is superior in removing debris on surfaces than the other robovacs that we tested but it's not the best for cleaning corners and edges. It's also not as gentle on furniture, despite being surprisingly quiet. It was quite rough on furniture, as it moved chairs away. It also made some collisions with the sides of the bed.
2. Black & Decker Q5 Pro
If you're looking to expand your collection of robot vacuums, or just starting out, the Q5 Pro is a great option. It has an elegant design, powerful navigation, and efficient automation at a low cost. It's the best pound-for-pound model available today and even beats some of Roborock's much pricier models in many ways.
This robot is fantastic in cleaning floors that are bare and its avoidance technology helps it to steer away from furniture legs or other obstacles. It also performs well on carpets and scores a high score in our navigation tests. The only issue is that it's noisier than other models and doesn't do as well in our satisfaction of the owner and predicted reliability tests.
The Q5 Pro comes with a large dust bin that is 770ml, which means that you won't need to empty it as often as other 2-in-1 robots. The Q5 Pro's 240-minute running time is also impressive when contrasted with other 2-in-1 robots that we tested. When the battery is running low, it will automatically return to its dock where it recharges before resuming cleaning where it began. You can manage the Q5 Pro via the app and make voice commands using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.
This is the first robot we've seen that has 3D mapping. That, combined with some other innovations, helps it do exceptionally well in our mopping and vacuuming tests. You can schedule cleanings and create no-go zones. You can also see the status of your battery. The app is easy to use, even though it does not support Apple HomeKit and that feature is slated to be added in 2025. As of November 1, Apple has updated a footnote on its website to note that this feature will be delayed until 2025. HomeKit isn't compatible with other robots, however Siri Shortcuts are.
